10/10 delicious and easy.

Summer is here and it's time to make a refreshing twist on a classic iced coffee drink. You won’t believe how tasty and easy-to-make this refreshing summer energy boost is. It’s my new favorite.

If you haven’t made coffee at home in an authentic Italian Moka pot, you’re missing out on an easy way to make cozy and satisfying drinks for stupid cheap. I’ve been using one for years that I bought on a whim. I use it every day, and it’s the only coffee make I own now.

Everyone (and by everyone, I mean annoying online influencers) talks about coffee as this super dehydrating drink (although research begs to differ — scroll down for more), but when you add coconut water, all those electrolytes come to the rescue and those annoying influencer voices go away. Plus, the flavor is delicious.

Read more about the benefits of this tasty beverage after the recipe. It’ll surprise you!

Here how to make it:

  • 3-4 ounces chilled espresso from your Moka pot (see below for coffee recommendations)

  • 4-6 ounces coconut water

  • As much or as little ice as you prefer

That’s it! Super easy to make, even easier to drink. Enjoy!

See how it’s made here.

How to make good stovetop espresso: According to the manufacturer, the coffee that works best in a Moka pot is Illy Espresso Roast packed lightly into the portafilter basket thing. I have to agree, it seems to come out a lot better than when I use grocery store coffee.

Because caffeine is a stimulant, consuming it after noon is probably not the best idea for your sleep. Decaf to the rescue! Try a Swiss-washed mold-tested decaf to avoid mycotoxins and the harsh chemicals used to decaffeinate coffee. Or you can try a chilled version of this chicory-dandelion faux coffee (it’s delicious).

Why are coconut water iced Americanos so good for me?

Let me tell you what’s going on in your coconut water americano.

  • Polyphenols — polyphenols are kind of like super-concentrated compounds that make things like tea, balsamic vinegar, and red wine considered healthy foods. They boost your nutrient status in a way that taking a multivitamin doesn’t.

  • Antioxidants — some of those polyphenols have antioxidant powers, which means they can decrease inflammation, slow down aging processes in your body, support cardiovascular health and so much more!

  • Electrolytes — coconut water has electrolytes like potassium, calcium, sodium and magnesium

  • Microminerals — not only does coconut water have electrolytes, but it also contains traces of microminerals which may give your body a nutrient boost.

  • Caffeine — a potent nootropic, caffeine makes it easier for the synapses in your brain to send and receive messages, leading to increased productivity and creativity.

But doesn’t coffee dehydrate me?

Caffeine has a reputation as a mild diuretic, so you might think coffee would dehydrate you. Not unless you drink a ton of it. In fact, coffee is very weak as far as diuretics go. Consider these tasty morsels of info:

My photo skills are trash, so I made an AI version of what this drink looks like. Just don’t look too close!

  1. A study in PLOS ONE found no link between moderate coffee consumption and dehydration.

  2. A 2014 review of research concluded that caffeine doesn’t cause dehydration in healthy adults, even during exercise.

  3. Coffee is as hydrating as water for regular coffee drinkers.

That said, there is a time and place for caffeine, especially for people who are sensitive to it. But now you’ve got a little more info, and you can make an informed decision. Enjoy!
